The invention of the automatic helmet-washing machine in Vietnam

In Asia countries, due to their massive population, the ownership of cars in comparison to the majority of the population is low. Most citizens traveled to work or school by motorbike with an obligatory helmet on their head, both for the driver and the passenger. Predicting the need of the people, a group of Vietnamese talented inventors has invented the automatic helmet-washing machine.

The automatic helmet washing machine was recently invented by a group of students from the University of Technology and Education of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The invention receives mixed opinions in the online community. What is the use of the invention and what is the process of creation, is there any practical application?

The automatic helmet washing machine is an innovative product by Mr. Le Tien Dat, Binh Trinh Thang, Son Xe Ray Oate, students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technology and Education of Ho Chi Minh City after 4 months of hard work.

The idea behind this invention is that in Vietnam and most other Eastern countries, helmets are an essential tool for people when traveling on the street because the percentage of people owning motorbikes compared to cars in this region is very high.

In Vietnam, wearing a helmet when traveling is absolutely mandatory. For nearly 2 decades now, the wearing of helmets has been a mandatory requirement followed by every citizen over the age of 6, because according to Decree 123/2021/ND-CP, the act of not wearing a helmet when participating in traffic will be fine from 400,000 to 600,000 VND.

However, although wearing a helmet is an obvious way to protect the lives of Vietnamese citizens, few people think about helmet hygience.

Unlike clothing and other inseparable items, helmets are used at least once every 2 days, but because they do not smelly, and are not used too often, they are not attached to the body like a shirt, pant, or a phone, so the care of the helmet is of little concern.

However, after rainy days with a motorcycle helmet hanging outside or when it is hot, sweat from the scalp splashes into the hat, the users will easily get itchy, creating ideal conditions for mold and harmful bacteria.

For these reasons, students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technical Education, Ho Chi Minh City have created a tool to quickly and periodically clean the helmet simply and automatically.

Automatic helmet washing machine

The structure of an automatic helmet-washing machine includes a hat-washing compartment, a control circuit, a washing water compartment, and a capacitor.

Using the machine is very simple. Customers or the machine owner will put the helmets in the compartment, the machine will wash and dry the helmet according to the preset programming with washing, rinsing, and drying modes.

The washing time is completely user-set depending on the condition of the helmet or the user’s free time at that time. They can choose from a quick wash, a slow wash or a medium wash. The fastest wash is 10 minutes, the longest is 30 minutes, and the average wash is 20 minutes.

When the helmet is inserted into the washing compartment, a system of metal pins will secure the helmet in place in the compartment. Under the strong pressure of water and detergent solution, the helmet will be cleaned of dirt, including stubborn layers of dirt that adhere to the wall or inner fabric.

After that, the hot steam system will be activated to dry the helmet. The helmet after washing has a pleasant scent, clean and shiny, does not peel off accessories such as felt lining or helmet straps. Both safe and clean.

It is expected that for each wash, customer will be charged less than 10 thousand VND. However, with the total expected cost to complete this machine about 13 million VND (the cost of production and commercialization will be cheaper than this number), the online community could not help but shake their heads at the practicality of the invention.

Because of course, almost no people will buy this invention to wash their helmets periodically. Businesses such as shops, car maintenance garages, etc. may buy, but due to low current demand, it will be difficult to gain back the investment cost.
