Cambodian and South Korean leaders address key intellectual property issues
On May 17, 2024, Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce and Chairperson of the National Committee for Intellectual Property, Cham Nimul, met with representatives from the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in intellectual property (IP) training and exchange perspectives on significant IP issues.
Minister Nimul highlighted the productive collaboration between KIPO and Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce over the years, which has led to significant achievements. One notable outcome is the forthcoming signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Intellectual Property Cooperation, set to occur in the presence of leaders from both countries.
Nimul underscored the importance of the National Intellectual Property Policy 2023–2028. This policy acts as a strategic plan for advancing IP development in Cambodia, reflecting the Royal Government of Cambodia’s dedication to strengthening IP protection and implementation. The goal is to foster innovation, the creation of new products and services, and to ensure a fair and competitive business and investment environment.
During the meeting, the two parties signed an MoU aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation in intellectual property. This agreement establishes a comprehensive framework and provides the flexibility needed to address various IP-related issues effectively.
