The CNIPA published Intellectual Property Data in 2021

In 2021, the CNIPA published statistics data on intellectual property-related work. Chinese patents, trademarks, and other intellectual property rights information as of end of 2021 are as follows:

China Patent in 2021

In China, 696,000 invention patents were granted, including 110,000 granted to international applicants, 3.12 million utility model patents were granted, and 786,000 design patents were granted.

73,000 PCT patent applications were filed in CNIPA, with 68,000 of them submitted by domestic applicants. Patent reexamination cases totaled 54,000, and invalidation cases totaled 7,100.

The three fastest-growing fields in aspects of valid invention patents, according to the 35 technology fields classified by the World Intellectual Property Organization, were information technology management method, computer technology, and medical technology, with increases of 100.3 percent, 32.7 percent, and 28.7 percent, respectively.

The average time it takes to examine an invention patent has been decreased to 18.5 months.

China Trademark in 2021

In China, there were 37.24 million legitimate trademark applications as of 2021. From Chinese domestic registrants, CNIPA received 5,928 international trademark utilizing the Madrid System. A total of 164,000 trademark opposition cases and 383,000 trademark review cases were investigated.

The normal trademark registration examination process was stabilized at 4 months, while the registration process for general circumstances trademark applications was decreased to 7 months. The average processing time for trademark oppositions was reduced to 11 months, while the average processing time for rejection review cases and complicated review cases was reduced to 5.5 months and 9 months, respectively. The average time required for trademark amendment applications filed utilizing online system was 24 days, the average time required for trademark renewals was 12 days, and the average time required for trademark transfers was 2 months.
