WIPO’s commitment to supporting Vietnam in upgrading its national intellectual property system

The last activity of the Vietnamese President during his official visit to Switzerland was a meeting with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

At the meeting, the President of Vietnam welcomed the efforts of WIPO and the General Director personally in promoting the global intellectual property ecosystem, supporting countries to innovate and improve labor productivity.

The President thanked WIPO’s valuable cooperation and support over the past decades, helping Vietnam to achieve many positive results in perfecting legal institutions, building an intellectual property system, and improving standards. number of global innovations.

The President highly appreciated WIPO’s vision and medium-term action plan 2022-2026 on promoting intellectual property and innovation for the advancement of mankind, bringing into play the results of the 4th industrial revolution.

Implement National Intellectual Property Strategy and Intellectual Property Law

The President asked WIPO to continue to support Vietnam in the implementation of the National Intellectual Property Strategy and the Intellectual Property Law. It helps to develop an advanced culture, train a team of experts who are qualified to exploit the patent database. Thereby, it not only contributes to the development of key economic – technical sectors of Vietnam in the future, but also continues to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese officials to participate in training courses, practice internships and opportunities to work at WIPO.

Agreeing with the cooperation proposals of WIPO, the President suggested that WIPO continue to support Vietnam in promoting and improving the capacity of the national innovation system.

The President affirmed that Vietnam is ready to be the focal point of WIPO cooperation in the region; interested in technical support for the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam to build a set of indicators to measure innovation activities at the local level in the coming time.

WIPO General Director Daren Tang expressed his pleasure and honor to welcome and receive President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and the Vietnamese delegation at WIPO headquarters during his visit to Switzerland, congratulating the visit on its success.

Mr. Daren Tang highly appreciated Vietnam’s efforts and impressive achievements in socio-economic development, especially the interest in investing in developing the intellectual property system and the national innovation ecosystem. In recent years, leading to outstanding results in the Global Innovation Index (GII), ranking first in the group of 34 low-middle-income developing countries.

WIPO especially appreciates Vietnam’s role as a member and responsible contribution in participating in WIPO’s activities. Wipo also commits to actively support Vietnam in terms of resources and techniques, and to upgrade the national intellectual property system and innovation ecosystem for sustainable socio-economic development, building cultural industry, national and international geographical indications.

The General Director of WIPO proposed the possibility of cooperating with Vietnam to build an intellectual property training center for young people and entrepreneurs; establish a global network of start-ups; strengthen capacity training on intellectual property for Vietnamese officials, including diplomats and negotiators.

On the occasion of visiting and working at WIPO, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the ceremony to announce the award of the title of Young Ambassador of WIPO’s Intellectual Property to a group of young Vietnamese inventors.

Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat gave a speech to encourage the world’s youth to participate in intellectual property activities and innovation, responding to initiatives initiated by WIPO globally.

After that, the President, his wife and the Vietnamese delegation moved to the international airport in Geneva to leave Switzerland and go to Russia. Flight time to Moscow is estimated at more than 3 hours.

The official welcome ceremony for President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife and the Vietnamese delegation visiting Russia will take place in Moscow.
