Vietnam joins DESIGNview platform of registered industrial design
On February 2, 2024, more than 52,000 industrial designs registered with the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Vietnam) were integrated into DESIGNview, a search tool that aggregates registered designs from various IP offices worldwide, including the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).
IP Vietnam’s inclusion in DESIGNview marks a significant addition to the platform, which was established on November 19, 2012. With this update, DESIGNview now boasts participation from 76 IP offices globally, encompassing a vast collection of over 21.4 million industrial designs.
Tran Manh Hung, APAC co-chair for IP Tech Practice Group at Baker McKenzie in Hanoi, expressed enthusiasm about this development. He highlighted the benefits for applicants seeking to file their designs in Vietnam, as well as the convenience it brings to international colleagues and friends who can now utilize the search tool to streamline their filing processes in Vietnam.
Hung commended the collaborative efforts of EUIPO, IP Vietnam, and other stakeholders in enhancing the accessibility and global reach of DESIGNview. He expressed anticipation for future collaborations with additional IP offices worldwide, further enhancing the tool’s utility and effectiveness.
This integration signifies a positive step towards greater efficiency and accessibility in the field of industrial design protection, benefitting applicants, practitioners, and stakeholders alike.
