IPOPHL is awarded the prize for alternative dispute resolution contribution

The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) was recognized by the Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR) for its major contribution to the development of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as a practical tool for resolving conflicts.

Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR)

The Office for Alternative Dispute Resolution (OADR) is an attached agency of the Department of Justice of the Philippines created pursuant to Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9285 or the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Act of 2004.

It is mandated to promote, develop and expand the use of ADR in the private and public sectors; assist the government in monitoring, studying and evaluating the use of ADR by the public and private sectors; and recommend to Congress needful statutory changes to develop, strengthen and improve ADR practices in accordance with world standards.

The mission of OADR is to promote and institutionalize the effective and ethical use and practice of ADR in the country. The OADR is committed to promote, develop and expand the use of ADR in the public and private sectors. As OADR strive to be a world-class, dynamic policy-making body in promoting the effective and ethical use of ADR in the country, they commit to:

  • Deliver quality services relating to promotion, training, accreditation and certification, policy and development of ADR use in the public and private sectors;
  • Comply with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements; and
  • Continually improve OADR organization’s systems and approaches to ensure the highest level of satisfaction of all stakeholders.

IPOPHL is awarded the prize for alternative dispute resolution contribution

On March 7 2022, IPOPHL and the OADR signed a Memorandum of Agreement. On December 13, 2022, on the official website of IPOPHL, this agency announced that they have been recognized for invaluable contribution to ADR.

The partnership between the two organizations paved the way for the implementation of seven collaborative events around the nation, including seminars, training sessions, and mediation simulations attended by over a thousand people.

IPOPHL’s request to renew its accreditation as a public ADR provider organization (APO) in mediation at the same site was approved by the OADR. The renewal was approved after IPOPHL demonstrated conformity with the requirements outlined in the OADR Accreditation Guidelines for APOs and Training Standards for ADR Practitioners.

The award was recently presented to Nathaniel S. Arevalo, Director of the Bureau of Legal Affairs (BLA), and Luwin M. Dela Concha, BLA IP Rights Specialist, during the 2022 National Alternative Dispute Resolution Convention (NADRC).

The IPOPHL roster’s 18 mediators were also recognized as qualified neutrals. This milestone marked the achievement that IPOPHL is the only government agency to gain APO accreditation until now.
