Lazada branches out with Thailand’s government to promote GI product
Lazada – one of Southeast Asia’s largest e-commercial company has recently cooperated with Thailand’s government to promote GI products originated from this country.
A geographical indication is a sign that refers to a product originating in a particular region, locality, territory, or country. Basically, a product can be classed as a geographical indication product when it can show and prove that no other place in the world can produce such products with such unique taste, color, smell, etc.
One of the most famous GI products in the world is the Champagne wine which is normally confused by consumers of wines in the world. Champagne is a name of a region in France that produces a unique type of sparkling wine that no other place can produce.
Simply, all places can produce sparkling wines but when that type of wine is produced in Champagne, it is called champagne sparkling wine, or champagne for short. No other areas have the right to call their sparkling wines ‘champagne’ as the sparkling wines produced in Champagne have got its geographical indication.
A symbol identifying a product from a certain area is required for it to qualify as a GI product. If a party uses a GI symbol illegally, they will be considered violating the law, deceiving consumers about the product’s origins.
When a product obtains a GI, its value will be skyrocketing many times. Realizing this fact, the Commerce Ministry of Thailand has collaborated with the online retailer Lazada to promote Thailand’s registered geographical indication products to consumers in Thailand and abroad.
Lazada’s deal is one of the latest online channels that Thailand has used to promote its GI products, making it simpler for customers to purchase them. Besides online, this country has also utilized its traditional route to market GI products to national consumers.
It is expected that when the deal has fully functioned, producers of GI products across the nation will get their income increase gradually, slowly increasing Thailand’s economy.
According to Lazada, some of the high-end GI products in Thailand that will be promoted as the face of the marketing campaigns are Thep Sadej coffee from Chiang Mai, Pae Jor Khew beans from Tak, Mor Hom cloth from Phrae, Bang Kra Thum sun-dried banana from Phitsanulok, and Thung Kula Ronghai jasmine rice from Roi Et.
