Cambodia prime minister pledges to strengthen efforts to protect IP rights
Prime Minister Hun Manet has emphasized the importance of combating plagiarism by urging the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, along with relevant organizations, to enhance their efforts in safeguarding intellectual property, copyright, and related rights. He emphasized the need to update existing legislative frameworks to align with technological advancements.
Addressing over 4,000 attendees at the 26th National Cultural Day held at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre, Manet highlighted the government’s priority of preserving national and individual identities through the arts and cultural sector. He emphasized the collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts and artists in producing educational materials to promote national culture through various cultural events.
Acknowledging the significant growth in the cinema industry, especially driven by youth involvement, Manet encouraged the production of new works while underscoring the need for these industries to adapt to the evolving socioeconomic landscape. He called for expanded collaboration between the Ministry and youth to provide technical support for research and the creation of cultural works while upholding professional ethics and identity.
To foster market trust and innovation, Manet stressed the importance of enhancing the quality and productivity of cultural productions while discouraging plagiarism of traditional and modern art forms. He reiterated the necessity for the Ministry and related institutions to strengthen efforts in intellectual property protection, copyright, and related rights.
Manet also emphasized the importance of protecting and preserving historical sites, pagodas, and structures, directing the Ministry, relevant ministries, and local authorities to promptly address and prevent cultural crimes.
