14th China-ASEAN Heads of Intellectual Property Offices Meeting
The 14th Meeting of Heads of Intellectual Property Offices between China and the ASEAN nations occurred in Nanning, Guangxi Province, on September 16.
Shen Changyu, the Commissioner of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA), chaired the meeting. Santisouk Phounesavath, the Rotating Chair of the ASEAN Intellectual Property Cooperation Working Group (AWGIPC) and the Director General of the Department of Intellectual Property in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR, attended the opening ceremony and delivered statements. Also in attendance were Lu Pengqi, Deputy Commissioner of the CNIPA; Lan Quang Le, Director of the Market Integration Directorate of the ASEAN Economic Community Department under the ASEAN Secretariat, and heads of intellectual property offices from the 10 ASEAN member states.
During the meeting, China presented a report on the progress of the China-ASEAN IP cooperation plan for 2022-2023. The meeting reviewed and sanctioned the China-ASEAN IP Cooperation Work Program for 2023-2024. As per the new work program, both parties plan to introduce innovative approaches and enhance collaboration in intellectual property capacity development, protection, and utilization.
Before the meeting, Shen engaged in one-on-one discussions and signed relevant cooperation agreements with Rowel Sevilla Barba, the Director General of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines; Chansouk Sengphachanh, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Lao PDR; Phork Sovanrith, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation of Cambodia; and Ouk Prachea, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia, respectively.
