International Conference on Intellectual Property to be Hosted in 2022 in China, Japan, and Korea
The 2022 international symposium on intellectual property was jointly hosted on December 28, 2022, by the Chinese Intellectual Property Society (CIPS), the Intellectual Property Association of Japan (IPAJ), and the Korea Intellectual Property Society (KIPS). Heads of IPAJ and KIPS, CIPS President Tian Lipu, and Deputy Commissioner Lu Pengqi of the CNIPA delivered keynote speeches during the opening session.
According to Lu, the international symposium has borne fruit 10 times over and is one of the main platforms for China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea’s cooperation in intellectual property. This edition’s subject, “Mission and duty of IP in the era of the digital economy,” was particularly practical. It is envisaged that the IP communities of the three nations would take advantage of new technology trends and promote the creation of an IP protection system that is more practical, effective, safe, and reliable, which will aid East Asia’s economic and technical growth. The partners are urged to use the platforms to impart knowledge and viewpoints, as well as to provide new energy, strength, and contributions to the IP collaboration between the three nations and the economic and technical advancement of Asia.
According to Tian, IP is a new force behind the qualitative growth of the digital economy and even a significant element for motivating ongoing innovation inside it. He expressed his optimism about working with Korean and Japanese partners to create a welcoming, equitable, and nondiscriminatory environment for the growth of the digital sector.
After the industrial era and agricultural reform, a new type of economic mode has appeared: the digital economy. The growth of new platforms and technologies, driven by the digital economy, has radically transformed the market for knowledge-based products, given rise to new fields that require IP protection, and presented new difficulties for the IP system. The worldwide symposium’s four topic panels were organized by CIPS. Around 15 IP experts from the three countries gave presentations on the symposium’s theme and subjects, such as the rules for IP protection of data, the IP debate over the metaverse, IP concerns with healthcare and the patent licensing linkage system, and IP’s role in the post-pandemic economic recovery. They also interacted with 12 guests and shared their experiences and national practices.
