Required documents of trademark renewal in EU
The renewal should be done and the renewal fee must be paid within the six months preceding your mark’s expiry date. The form may be submitted right up until the expiry of the registration.
Required documents
- Power of attorney
- Certificate of Trademark Registration (original certificate)
- Other documents (Proof of fee payment, declaration of request for trademark renewal, etc)
Other Notes:
- For online renewal. There is a paper form that can be sent by post or courier. The fee for renewing on paper is €1000 as opposed to €850 for renewing online.
- Don’t forget that you cannot change your trademark when renewing it. You can restrict the list of goods and services you applied for 10 years ago but you cannot add goods or services.
- If you have failed to observe the time limit but still wish to renew your mark, you can still do so for six months after the expiry date, but there is a 25% surcharge.
- The renewal fee must be paid according to the same system as the original trademark registration fee.
- Each additional category will also require a corresponding additional fee for trademark renewal in Europe.
